Extubation is a procedure which requires clinical judgement & objective assessment of adequate reversal of anaesthetic drugs. Use of drugs like opioids, beta blockers, lidocaine has been made to minimize the haemodynamic stress response to extubation. However, all these drugs have some drawbacks. Dexmedetomidine ( an á2-adrenoceptor agonist) was used by authors to minimize the hemodynamic response to extubation. Dexmedetomidine use resulted in clinically significant reduction in heart rate, blood pressure when compared to placebo in patients undergoing laproscopic cholecystectomy.
