Novel therapeutic strategies for treating Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.
Novel therapeutic strategies for treating Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.: ABSTRACTIntroductionPersistent infections caused by the superbug Pseudomonas aeruginosa and its resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents are huge threats to patients with cystic fibrosis as well as those with compromised immune systems. Multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa has posed a major challenge to conventional antibiotics and therapeutic approaches, which show limited efficacy and cause serious side effects. The public...

Major Durable Response of Pembrolizumab in Chemotherapy Refractory Small Cell Bladder Cancer: A Case Report
Major Durable Response of Pembrolizumab in Chemotherapy Refractory Small Cell Bladder Cancer: A Case Report: Small cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder is a rare subtype (incidence of 1–9/1,000,000), characterized by an aggressive behavior with early metastasis and poor prognosis. Chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery are the usual treatment options, but to date, no accepted standard treatment exists. Since small cell bladder cancer shares similar clinicopathological features with small cell lung...

Chest Computed Tomography Findings in Asymptomatic Patients with COVID-19..................., all patients (100%) had ground-glass opacity (GGO) on chest CT. Further, the GGO lesions were predominantly distributed peripherally and posteriorly in all patients. In 9 (90%) patients, the GGO lesions were combined with reticular opacity. Air bronchogram due to bronchiolectasis surrounded by GGO was observed in 8 patients (80%). Additionally, the lung lesions were dominant on the right side in all patients.
Chest Computed Tomography Findings in Asymptomatic Patients with COVID-19: Background: Little is known about the damage to the respiratory system in asymptomatic patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Objective: Herein, we evaluate the findings of chest computed tomography (CT) and radiography in patients with COVID-19 who were asymptomatic.      A minimal yet flexible likelihood framework to assess correlated evolution [NEW RESULTS]An evolutionary process is reflected in the sequence of changes through time of any trait (e.g. morphological, molecular). Yet, a better understanding of evolution would be procured by characterizing correlated evolution, or when two or more evolutionary processes interact. A wide range of parametric methods have previously been proposed to detect correlated evolution but they often require significant computing...

Enantioselective Total Synthesis of (‐)‐Finerenone using Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation(‐)‐Finerenone is a nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist currently in phase III clinical trials for the treatment of chronic kidney disease in type 2 diabetes. It contains an unusual dihydronaphthyridine core. Herein, we report a 6‐step synthesis of (‑)‐Finerenone which features an enantioselective partial transfer hydrogenation of a naphthyridine using a chiral phosphoric acid catalyst with a...

bioRxiv Subject Collection: Evolutionary BiologyWhen the microbiome defines the host phenotype: selection on vertical transmission in varying environments [NEW RESULTS]The microbiome can contribute to variation in fitness-related traits of their hosts, and thus to host evolution. Current models have mostly focused on microbes that either...
Bench Testing of a Bubble Noninvasive Ventilation Device in an Infant Lung SimulatorBACKGROUND:Infant respiratory distress remains a significant problem worldwide, leading to more than one million neonatal deaths each year. The cost, maintenance, energy, and personnel required to implement ventilators have proven to be a barrier in many resource-limited settings. To address these barriers, a nonelectric bubble noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIV) device was developed. This study aims...
