Bi‐allelic loss of FAM46C triggers tumor growth with concomitant activation of Akt signaling in multiple myeloma cellsAbstract Loss of heterozygosity or mutation of the family with sequence similarity 46, member C (FAM46C) gene on chromosome band 1p12 is associated with shorter overall survival of patients with multiple myeloma (MM). In this study, using human MM cell lines (KMS‐11, OCI‐My5, and ANBL‐6), we generated FAM46C‐/‐ cell clones and examined the effect of disruption of FAM46C on cell survival...

Melatonin is useful alternative for sedation in children undergoing auditory brainstem responses testing
Melatonin is useful alternative for sedation in children undergoing auditory brainstem responses testing: AbstractAuditory brainstem responses testing (ABRs) is frequently required to assess auditory function in children. It is done usually in outpatient fashion and requires deep sleep to avoid artefacts. Sedation method used for the test should allow a deep sleep while avoiding general anaesthesia that requires special monitoring, dedicated staff and operating room availability. For this purpose,...

Are Basal-Like and Non-Basal-Like Triple-Negative Breast Cancers Really Different?
Are Basal-Like and Non-Basal-Like Triple-Negative Breast Cancers Really Different?: Objective. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for 15–25% of breast cancers. It is increasingly recognized that TNBC is a motley disease. TNBC and basal-like (BL) subtype are different molecular classes of breast cancer with a high degree of overlap. However, a smaller fraction lacks the expression of basal markers in spite of being TNBC and is called non-basal-like (NBL). The aim of this study is to assess...

Benign Alveolar Ridge Keratosis: Clinical and Histopathologic Analysis of 167 CasesAbstract Benign alveolar ridge keratosis (BARK), the intraoral counterpart of cutaneous lichen simplex chronicus, is a reactive hyperkeratosis caused by trauma or friction that presents as a poorly demarcated white papule or plaque on the keratinized mucosa of the retromolar pad or alveolar ridge mucosa (often edentulous). This is a clinical and histopathologic analysis of BARK including evaluation of p53 expression...

Genomic and Transcriptomic Characterization of Sporadic Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma
Genomic and Transcriptomic Characterization of Sporadic Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma: Thyroid, Ahead of Print. AbstractBackground: Sporadic medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a relatively uncommon neuroendocrine malignancy and the molecular tumorigenesis of its sporadic type (sMTC) is only partially understood. In this study, we performed a study focusing on the genomic and transcriptomic characterization of sMTC.Methods: Twenty-nine sMTC patients were included. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was...
