Is Cancer Rehabilitation Fellowship Training Necessary for Graduating Physiatrists Who Wish to Enter the Field of Cancer Rehabilitation?

As the Director of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Rehabilitation Fellowship and having completed a postresidency Clinical Neurophysiology (Electromyography [EMG]) fellowship, I admit that I am doubly biased toward fellowship training. I am not alone. The overall trend for residents graduating from physiatry programs is to apply for fellowships. Seventy-two percent of chief residents surveyed plan to pursue additional training beyond residency, albeit primarily in pain, sports, or spine fellowships [1].
