Degenerative lumbar scoliosis is a relatively common spinal disorder that typically affects patients older than 50 years old. As the population ages, the number of patients with this disease process will inevitably increase. The vast majority of patients have minor deformities (<30° coronal Cobb angles) and are relatively asymptomatic. A subset of patients develop axial back pain with or without neurologic symptoms (neurogenic claudication or radiculopathy). Patients typically develop radicular symptoms on the concave side of their apical or low lumbar fractional curves.

The optimal treatment for symptomatic neurogenic claudication or radiculopathy in the presence of mild degenerative scoliosis remains unclear
