Primary melanoma of the stomach treated by BRAF inhibitor and immunotherapy

In January 2014 a 75 years-old man was admitted to the emergency department because of melena. The laboratory tests showed severe anaemia (haemoglobin 6.3g/dl). An emergency esophagogastroduodenoscopy found a bleeding pigmented brown ulcerate lesion with irregular margins of 4cm (Figs. 1 and 2). Several biopsies were performed and the final histological diagnosis revealed primary melanoma of the stomach. The lesion was BRAF V600E mutated. Extensive dermatological and ophthalmological evaluation excluded other primary lesions.
