Abstract

Exocrine secretion of NaCl follows the "pump-leak" mechanism of active salt movement across an epithelial barrier followed by the movement of osmotically obliged water. Glandular exocrine secretion of NaCl rich fluids is found in most exocrine glands of the gastro-intestinal tract, the tear and sweat glands and also in airway epithelium
