The antenatal diagnosis of cleft lip from second trimester ultrasound scans is well established1. However it is still not possible to routinely visualise an isolated cleft of the palate (Veau type 1 or 2). In approximately 20-30% of these infants with isolated cleft palate there is an association with Robin sequence. The term refers to the description by Dr Pierre Robin of a cleft of the palate associated with micrognathia, glossoptosis and airway difficulty2. This diagnosis has implications for the immediate management of breathing and feeding.
